Life decided your way.

Overview

Dcdr is a decision assistant application that gives you the confidence to make decisions throughout your daily life, and to feel good doing it. With a curated profile that is 100% you, dcdr doesn’t only help you make a decision, but knows the kind of things that you’d love.

Here is a prototype walkthrough for one of the app’s features “Coin Toss,” where users choose between two decisions:

How it started

Dcdr started with a conversation. I was drinking coffee with a friend in the mission district of San Francisco, and I got to asking him about what kind of issues he was having in life. Being the quirky, excited speaker they are, my friend went on about how he didn’t know what to do with his free time. More than that, he wanted to be everywhere, wanting to be sure that what he was doing was something he was going to love. He used the term “fomo” multiple times during our conversation. Someone who is indecisive, but very particular. I brought out my notebook and began to write these things down. These notes later became an idea for an application.

Tools & Methods

A lot of research went into creating this service, including user interviews and user research. I dug deep into articles talking about the psychological effects of indecision, and the amount of reading material stacked high on my digital desk.

The Challenge

For an indecisive person, choice can be crippling. With this in mind, I wanted positive reassurance at every step of the decision-making process. From the beginning to the end of a task, the user comes across language that isn’t just positive, but also builds their confidence.

“Let’s do something today” encourages action and is a positive motivator.

While users wait to see what decision awaits them, they are shown positive affirmation.

“Hooray” and “decision” take precedence over everything at the end, which allows users to feel confident in making their choice.

From beginning to the end, the language is approachable, encouraging, and focus on the end result, a decision!
